Thanks Badges for good service were presented to four Leaders from Girlguiding Darwen Division by their Division Commissioner Mrs Christine Lerning at their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 26th April 2017. Mrs Christine Lerning wished to thank these four members of her Division team for all their tireless efforts behind the scenes for the benefit of everyone in Girlguiding Darwen Division. The recipients were Barbara Clare, Doreen Sinfield, Joyce Marsden, and Judith Barlow

Mrs Barbara Clare and Mrs Doreen Sinfield, are both District Commissioners. Christine said. “Between them have over 100 years service! They have a wealth of knowledge that I have relied on at times and have been a huge support at difficult and happy times during my time as Commissioner.”

Mrs Joyce Marsden is the Division President. Christine stated, “She has been my sounding board, and adviser. I could not have managed without her in this role. Most of all she is a true friend in and out of Guiding.”

Miss Judith Barlow is the Music adviser for Darwen. Christine said, “Judith has been a Leader, District Commissioner and is currently a Trefoil Guild member. She supports the Division at our swimming galas and all events that need musical expertise at Division or Unit level.”

Also at the meeting Eleanor Tomlin, aged 17, who gave an account of her trip to Uganda in 2016. She was a member of a team of eight girls representing Girlguiding North West England. In Uganda they assisted a charity which helps young girls to understand their bodies and to attend school. Often girls miss school during their menstrual period. The group helped the girls to understand what happens during their monthly cycle and gave out underwear and reusable sanitary towels.
